Piotr Steczek – composer, arranger, music producer, violinist and multi –instrumentalist, graduated Karol Szymanowski Music Conservatory in Katowice in 2003. During his studies in Katowice he started to create with his friends and professor Marek Moś Chamber Orchestra Aukso which is nowadays well-known all around the world.

As a soloist – violinist and multi-instrumentalist – he performed in a concert halls in Poland and Europe, including the concert hall of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the National Philharmonic in Minsk and the National Philharmonic in Vilnius. He led many original educational projects for children and youth. He performed as a conductor and soloist with his own compositions, collaborating with such bands as: AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Elbląg Chamber Orchestra, Radom Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the Capital City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia, Gorzów Philharmonic Orchestra, Košice Philharmonic Orchestra, Leopold Orchestra during the celebrations of Poland’s presidency of the European Union in Warsaw and at the OFF Festival in Katowice.

Piotr Steczek is playing on acoustic violin, 6- string electric violin and oriental flutes: duduk, shakuhachi, ney, zurna and fujara which he is collecting from many years during his travels around the world. He created music group called Esus playing his own music on classical string instruments. Group has played many concerts in Poland and abroad and produced CD called Esus.

With his brother Paweł Steczek he founded music group called Medulla, which is an original music band playing music in their own contemporary style characterized by an original, strong synthesizer sound, combined with subtle melodies and an ethnic instrumental tint.

The band recorded a CD album called Medulla, music videos and they are playing concerts all around the world. In 2016 Medulla won the competiton “Koalicja Miast dla Kultury” and they played an amazing concert in Wrocław with the Orchestra Aukso. The idea of the performance was to connect the cities in Poland and their artists but also the classical orchestra with industrial sound of the band.

Piotr has created several music projects. One of them, Chopin Odessey is based on Chopin pieces and jazz improvisations .”Project aims to develop novel pieces based on themes, phrases and concepts found in Chopin’s original scores. References to classical ideas emerge in surprising, innovative ways where harmony, rhythm and form take on a new dimension. Creative, pioneering interpretations of Chopin’s music are derived from modern jazz with its harmony and deployment of orchestra as rhythm section. However, the arrangement also relies on classical collaboration between a jazz trio and a string orchestra.” The project was performed with the Orchestra Aukso many times in the hall of the National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice but also with many other orchestras in Poland.

He recorded his first album Esus in 2008, than Asi Mina & Piotr Steczek Wybiegły in 2011, Medulla Thrills in 2012 and Derwid in 2015 – Songs of Witold Lutosławski with Magda Navarette and Esus. Piotr also took part as a composer and instrumentalist in several projects and albums, e.g.: Uran Uran – Original Theatre Picture Soundtrack, the band Cree albums. Now composer is working on two albums. One of them is the Sebastian Riedel & Piotr Steczek album, second one is author’s album String Reactor.

As an instrumentalist and a composer Piotr Steczek was working with such an artists like: John Greenwood, Krzysztof Penderecki, Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Leszek Możdżer, Krzysztof Kobyliński, Stanisław Soyka, Artur Rojek, Tulia, Krystyna Czubówna, Hanna Banaszak, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Krzysztof Kiljański, Katarzyna Cerekwicka, Marek Moś, Kasia Moś, Marcin Wyrostek, Urszula, AphexTwin, Prefuse 73, Myslovitz, Cree, Button Hackers, Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa, Volosi, Sonos Quartet.

The latest projects by the music producer are the World Music Tour – an educational project with compositions inspired by music from around the world, which premiere took place at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Hall in Katowice in 2018 and the String Reactor – a project combining world music with electronic music and string instruments. The artist produced first single of the String Reactor album entitled ElectrOrient, for which Piotr Smoleński created a music video sponsored by the Institution of Culture Krystyna Bochenek, City of Gardens and Sosnowiec City Cultural Initiatives.

In 2018, composer created Piotr Steczek Quartet and he performed his pieces with the Belgian pianist and composer Jef Neve during the concert Celebration of the City of Katowice Birthday organized by the Institution of Culture Krystyna Bochenek City of Gardens and the Unesco City of Music – Katowice. In 2019 Piotr Steczek played with this group his own compositions together with the Israeli jazz pianist Uriel Herman during the jewish festival “My-Wy Katowiccy Żydzi” organized by the Institution of Culture Krystyna Bochenek, City of Gardens and the Unesco City of Music – Katowice. Composer also participated with his Quartet in the production of Wojciech Kucharczyk’s album Uran Uran and the performance promoting album during the festival Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2018.

In September of the same year, Piotr Steczek led the symphony orchestra of the Philharmonic in Košice (Slovakia) conducting his own arrangements and compositions with Krzysztof Kobyliński (Polish composer and pianist). The pianists Jekaterina and Stanisław Drzewiecki took part in the concert as a soloists. The concert was received very enthusiastically.

In his art, Piotr is using modern composing techniques in combination with the traditional sound of instruments from around the world. He also creates original films of his own production, raising topics important for the world and people. He is fascinated by many musical styles from classical music, through dubstep, trap to the world music.

Kompozytor, aranżer, multiinstrumentalista, absolwent Akademii Muzycznej w Katowicach, skrzypek Orkiestry Kameralnej Miasta Tychy Aukso. Od wielu lat fascynuje się muzyką z różnych stron świata i kolekcjonuje oryginalne instrumenty etniczne, na których gra. Najnowsze projekty producenta muzycznego to Muzyczna Podróż Dookoła Świata – projekt edukacyjny z kompozycjami zainspirowanymi muzyką z całego świata, którego premiera odbyła się w siedzibie Narodowej Orkiestry Symfonicznej Polskiego Radia w Katowicach w 2018 roku oraz String Reactor – projekt łączący world music z muzyką elektroniczną i instrumentami smyczkowymi. Artysta wyprodukował singiel projektu String Reactor pt. ElectrOrient, do którego Piotr Smoleński stworzył teledysk sponsorowany przez Instytucje Kultury im. Krystyny Bochenek Miasto Ogrodów oraz Inicjatywy Kulturalne Miasta Sosnowiec.

Kompozytor uczestniczył także w produkcji płyty Wojciecha Kucharczyka Uran Uran oraz spektaklu poprzedzającego wydanie albumu podczas Festiwalu Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2018.

W 2019 roku w Katowicach odbył się wspólny autorski koncert Kwartetu Piotra Steczka wraz z izraelskim jazzowym pianistą Urielem Hermanem.

We wrześniu tego samego roku Piotr Steczek poprowadził symfoniczną Orkiestrę Filharmonii w Koszycach (Słowacja) dyrygując własnymi aranżacjami i współkompozycjami z Krzysztofem Kobylińskim (polski kompozytor i pianista). W koncercie tym jako soliści brali udział pianiści Jekaterina i Stanisław Drzewieccy. Koncert został przyjęty niezwykle entuzjastycznie (Standing ovation).
